--

Hey SILVASTONE, welcome to FLEX! How are you doing?

I’m doing good. I’m happy to see another day and have another chance to make it!

Congratulations on your new single 'Blessed'! How does it feel to have it out in the world?

Thank you! I feel blessed and it feels amazing to have the song out. I feel grateful to be able to share my art to the world and let everyone know of my standpoint and realisation for some of the simple things in life.

What is 'Blessed' about?

It’s a song about understanding that we all go through hard and difficult times but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. We have to look at the bright side of life and keep a positive outlook through troubled times. It’s about not overthinking and being able to leave the things we can’t control to God or the universe while doing the best for ourselves at the same time.

What was the recording and writing process like for it?

I came up with the idea and started recording it in Canada while on a speaking tour, almost like an epiphany understanding how blessed I was to be in this country, sharing my journey with others and encouraging young musicians. I went back to my studio – White Hut Studios – in Croydon, South London to work on the production of the song. I put down live instruments to give it a more live feel. I love creating with live instruments, and I’m blessed to be able to play keys, bass, guitars and drums to put onto my tracks. After composing the record and putting down the vocals, I went down to The Lab Studios in Somerset to meet my good friend, Drew Horley, who mixed and mastered the song. And the rest is “Blessed”!

Who are your main influences right now?

Life is my main influence right now. The world is full of uncertainties but also full of amazing opportunities and this is what’s giving me the inspiration to write the music I am making at the moment. Freedom is important. There are amazing independent artists out there that I listen to and it’s making the music experience richer and more enjoyable. In the mainsteam, I like how Kanye West has evolved from producer to artist to businessman and I think this is important to remember as artists. You have to diversify to multiply and be savvy to remember the business element as well as the art.

'Blessed' holds so many beautiful moments within it, blending nuances of so many genres. Was this always the aim when creating the track?

Yes - the aim was to encompass my love for Reggae music and Afrobeats into one. People know me as an Afrobeats artist but in all honesty I’m a genre fluid artist, so it’s only right to show that in the music I put out. I‘m a lover of music and all sounds and energies. So now I feel it’s the right time to showcase that love in the creation of my new music.

And finally, what is on the horizon for SILVASTONE in 2024?

You’re going to hear more music, more shows, more community initiatives and more great creations. The album that Blessed comes from – “Moments of Gratitude” – will be out later in the year. I am in love with the music I am creating these days and can’t wait to showcase more of it to you guys.
