In a world where rock 'n' roll's raw power can be hard to find, The Exchange Project, also known as TXP, emerges as a beacon of unadulterated sonic intensity. Drawing inspiration from rock's golden era while imprinting their unique signature, TXP crafts music that's a vivid tapestry of pulsating energy, gritty guitars, and soul-stirring vocals. With their latest single, "The Safe Word," they deliver a glimpse into their sonic universe, one that ignites an offering reminiscent of the genre's pioneers.

We sat down with these DC rockers to learn more about the new single, their inspirations and more, exclusively for FLEX. Check it out below.

Hey The Exchange Project, how are you doing?

Fantastic! We’re excited about our debut album release last month.

Please sum up your new single 'The Safe Word', in three words?

Sex and aftermath!

What inspired this track?

Like most of our songs, it started with the dissonant verse guitar riff and then we all collaborated from there on the rest of the song structure.

What was the recording and writing process like?

The recording was of course very basic. Instruments playing essentially live with no overdubs and then vocals added after that. Most of our songs start out with the guitar riff and skeleton song structure and then we tweak it from there, sometimes over years.

Who are your influences as a band? We hear a bit of KOL in 'The Safe Word'!

If it’s loud or otherwise cool guitar, it’s an influence! Various hard rock, classic rock, alternative, and stoner bands, etc.

What is the music scene like in DC?A variety of cool music! - a good amount of punk, shoegaze, metal and hardcore and then bands like us that are more straight ahead rock n’ roll.

And finally, what does the rest of 2023 have in store for you guys?

We’re playing at Songbyrd Music House in DC on 8/27 and we’re in the process of lining up other local DC show dates. We’re also back in the studio in early September to record a new EP with a producer, which is a first for us. More to come!!
