Introduction: 'The Sand'

Kenny Sandberg

"This band have put their mark in 'The Sand' and it's here to stay!"

I must admit, I hadn't heard of 'The Sand' before this, probably because they're busy making a name for themselves in their home country of Spain, but soon they hope to not need an introduction. Boasting a huge sound that reminds me of my younger years, they have returned with their new banger 'Bad Day'.

The Sand are an alternative rock group formed at the end of 2019 by songwriter Miguel Sand, who sings, and plays both guitar and piano. Later the group was completed with Roberto Illán on bass, Joaquin Gómez on guitar and Emilio Martinez on drums. The group's lyrics are in English, to pay respect to their Influences such as iconic rock bands Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Radiohead, Keane and Coldplay.

Now, the band return with their emotional new single ‘Bad Day’, which continues to pay homage to the late-nineties/early-noughties scene that shaped their sound. It’s their most ambitious release to date, and the new music video depicts the rawness and vulnerability of the song.

‘Bad Day’ epitomises what The Sand are all about; the perfect balance of melancholy and powerful songs, with their ability to create intimate rock ballads from the imagination of Miguel Sand. The song's elaborate production and musical attention to detail compliments the sensitivity of the lyrics throughout. Not one to be missed!

Frontman Sand describes the message behind the song well:

“It is a song dedicated to the fact that you can have bad days, but remembering that there is always tomorrow, and that things can improve.”

Keep your eyes peeled, this band have put their mark in 'The Sand' and it's here to stay!
