Joshua Milú’s latest release, ‘Sucito: A Home’, is a compact yet expansive and emotional EP.
Spanning just over 10 minutes, the EP reflects on several different emotions specifically the sense of belonging. It feels slightly different to a traditional EP release, it is extremely personal.
‘Mayhem’ acts as the opener of the EP and sets a tone of chaos, the track itself feels quite
overstimulating and unsettled. This feels as if it has been done on purpose, showcasing Milú’s
feelings as growing up a queer working-class person.
The EP then flows into the next track, ‘OATMEAL’, which is a fascinating song. It was not the song I expected from the title. I expected comfort from the track, but it was quite the opposite. The track proves that Milú can transform everyday rituals into intimate lyrics, and that not every song has to have the most fitting title.
Closing out ‘Sucito: A Home’ was the titular track ‘A Home’ and it set a completely different vibe to the songs heard previously. However, rather than drawing a definite conclusion to the whole EP, the song seemed to offer acceptance instead. It suggests that home sometimes is not a place, but a place of acceptance within yourself.
In just three tracks, Joshua Milú exhibits an emotional and personal journey. It is more than just an EP, it’s an experience for the attentive listener.
