LA singer-songwriter Junior Wright has released “Away”, a restrained new single exploring grief and the process of accepting someone’s absence.

The track centres on Wright’s voice alongside piano and cello, with the sparse arrangement deliberately leaving space around the vocal performance.

The song began with its central vocal melody, which Wright later developed into a complete lyric. A pianist subsequently shaped much of the accompanying arrangement around his words and delivery, before cello was added to provide further depth.

“Away” moves gradually from warmth towards a more sombre tone, reflecting the way understanding loss can develop over time rather than arrive all at once.

Wright’s musical background began in childhood through church choir and school chorus. Although his wider influences include Prince, Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars, his latest release places the emphasis firmly on simplicity, songwriting and vocal expression.
