Karen Harding is a rising singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Bursting on the scene back in 2021 with debut single “I Didn’t Realise”, she has been building her name and growing her fanbase ever since. Over the past two years, there has been a steady stream of releases that have captivated audiences, and now the emerging star is set to continue her momentum and break new ground with the release of her brand-new single, “Devil In The Mirror”, which is her first release of 2023.
The track immediately stands out on the first listen. Infused with a bouncy alt-pop production and a catchy hook, it’s arguably her most confident and impressive release to date. Karen also showcases how multifaceted she is, as the track was self-written and produced. It delves into the way many people feel when they don’t see themselves measuring up in a world where we are bombarded with rules and images of what we should look like and how we should behave. The “devil” is a metaphor for the judging voice in people’s heads that can leave people feeling inadequate.
Elaborating further, Karen says, “Like so many people, I have spent so much of my life being afraid to put myself in front of a camera or for people to see the whole me. My ‘devil’ would tell me stories that I didn’t measure up or that I didn’t look how I was supposed to look. I wanted to share this song because I believe that we’re in a pandemic... that people everywhere are striving for impossible, unreachable versions of themselves. I want them to know that they ARE good enough just by being themselves. They finally have the chance to break the mirror and conquer their devil.”
