Lana Karlay draws the line on her defiant new single ‘Cross Your Mind’

There's a moment in every uneven relationship where hope stops feeling romantic and starts feeling exhausting. And Lana Karlay captures that turning point with real clarity on ‘Cross Your Mind’, a pop-rock single built around the decision to walk away even when part of you still wants the other person to finally understand what they have lost.

The Geelong artist begins the track with a softer, dreamier vocal presence before allowing the arrangement to open into larger guitars, driving drums and a chorus designed to land with considerably more force.

The line “I have to cross you to cross your mind” gives the track its central idea, and it's certainly a strong one. Here, she writes about the imbalance of constantly carrying the emotional weight of a relationship, making excuses and thinking for two people while the other side remains distant until something suddenly goes wrong.

Co-written and produced with Mason & Julez, the track also feels like a clearer statement of her distinctive musical direction. Earlier releases may have moved between different styles, but this one leans confidently into pop-rock, balancing accessible melody with the immediacy of live instrumentation.

The bigger guitars and more energetic rhythm section give the song enough lift to stop it becoming weighed down by its subject, while the vulnerability in the vocal also keeps the emotional stakes believable.
