18-year-old alt Hip Hop rapper, and songwriter Canadian native Lillian Blue Makin returns with her third single of the year "Golden Lies", ahead of her debut EP to follow in early 2021.
Co-produced by Adam King, Miles Jones, and herself, with additional vocals by Mighloe “Golden lies” explores the themes of young love, personal evolution, and identity. The combination of sensual rhythms, twisted percussion, and cohesive flow, reflect her tug of war like state of mind.
Speaking on the inspiration behind her latest single, Lillian explains. “Golden Lies is my favourite song thus far. To me it is a story of deliberation, of not being able to face the truth, no matter what that truth is. At times the truth holds so much weight, much more than a lie, even if the truth is something I want to hear.”
She adds. “The birds in the track are a voice memo I took in the country one morning after nights without sleep. They are not only one of the simplest components of the track, but one of my favourites, they juxtaposed the driving beat, and they allow listeners to think with me, to hear my truth riddled with deliberation.”
Her latest release, “Cover under comfort” showcases the Toronto rappers’ talent for story-telling. It’s currently sitting at almost a quarter of a million streams on Spotify, and has received editorial support from Spotify’s ‘Discover weekly’ and ‘Fresh Finds: The Wave’.
