Liverpool's Toy Car Share Alt-Rock Builder 'Better Than Before'

In a rousing return, Liverpool's dynamic 5-piece band Toy Car is back with their latest single, 'Better Than Before' - a slow building alt-rock fizzer that follows closely on the heels of their BBC Radio 1 debut with 'Rat Race.'

Recorded in Leeds with the renowned duo Harry Jordan and Dan Clifford Smith, known for their work with Alt-rockers Eades, and mixed by Ben Harper (The Mysterines, The Sherlocks), 'Better Than Before' marks a departure from their previous work, showcasing a more contemplative and deliberate approach to songwriting. The track gradually unfolds, taking listeners on a sonic journey that crescendos into an explosive climax.

Opening with an enchanting blend of intertwining picked guitars and lead vocalist Shaun's breathy, understated delivery, the song progresses through reflective lyricism, building anticipation as it moves towards a dynamic midpoint. The track then transitions into an understated, 70's influenced middle-eight, featuring a tasteful yet vibrant guitar solo that adds a touch of nostalgia.

Shaun, the lead vocalist and primary songwriter, shares insight into the track and the band's alt-rock influences, stating, "I’m a huge fan of that style of music, when I began buying music I was always drawn to that sound. This was the first song I felt like I captured that energy in our own unique way. I wrote this song during an isolated part of my life in my studio flat in Liverpool; it was a way of expressing that we are all human and we all make the same mistakes and can learn from them."

'Better Than Before' captures a nostalgic alt-rock sound reminiscent of Radiohead and Blur, yet it maintains a fresh and distinctive edge, offering listeners another glimpse into the band's evolving musical landscape. The single not only serves as a testament to Toy Car's growth but also encapsulates the captivating energy they bring to their live performances, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what's next from this rising Liverpool powerhouse.
