Every so often, a band steps sideways instead of forward, and in doing so, discovers an entirely new dimension to their identity. With their newest outing 'Spin You Around', Chesham outfit Loudness Wars pivot sharply from their guitar-driven foundations and dive headfirst into shimmering circuitry and a midnight pulse.
At the centre of it all is Jay, the band’s frontman and principal writer, who used a period of downtime to immerse himself in electronic production. What began as a creative detour has evolved into a track that feels like it’s been beamed in from a smoke-hazed club in 1987 and reassembled with 2026 precision.
'Spin You Around' hums with a restless energy. The rhythm section moves with a human urgency, locked into a dancefloor throb that feels both nostalgic and immediate. Layers of glossy keys swirl around a muscular bassline, while his vocal sits confidently at the centre.
The influences are clear without ever feeling derivative. There’s a touch of melancholic grandeur in the chord progressions that defined late-20th-century alternative pop, but it’s filtered through a contemporary lens.
What makes this single particularly striking is its sense of intention. It sounds fully realised and completely confident in its stripped-back yet immersive design. Recorded in the band’s own studio space, the production is intimate but expansive, giving it this wonderfully immersive guise throughout.
By stepping into a synth-led universe, Loudness Wars reveal a versatility that suggests this is only the beginning of a broader reinvention. It’s bold, stylish, and a reminder that sometimes the best way forward is to plug in and glow.
