Manchester-based alt-rock quartet The Greater Good return with their bold new single, 'Full Grown Man'. Showcasing the band’s high-octane, urgent sound, the track is produced by Rob Slater (known for his work with Yard Act), opening with a buzzing, unhinged guitar riff that builds tension from the start.
The distorted, expressive vocals propel the track forward, delivering a frantic inner monologue of doubt and desperation. As the track grows through its racing verses, driven by fast-paced, angst-ridden lyricsim, the sense of tension breaks into an explosive instrumental, filled with cymbal-heavy drums, punchy bass, and distorted guitars, culminating in a vibrant, ska-influenced breakdown that closes the track with an unexpected shift.
With post-punk flair and a willingness to experiment, 'Full Grown Man' highlights the band's edgy, distinct musicality. The lyrics explore the pressure to meet societal and self-imposed expectations of adulthood, delving into the struggles of personal growth, failed relationships, and mental health. Vocalist and songwriter Huw adds: “The new single is a plea to be ‘cut some slack’ by the judgemental voices in your own mind and around you as you struggle to improve and be the person others can rely on. The realisation is that first you need to be able to rely on yourself.”
