Manchester indie risers The Rolling People are entering a pivotal phase with the announcement of their new EP Outlier. Dropping alongside a newly unveiled partnership with Pretty Green, the project represents a noticeable shift in both the band’s sound and overall identity, one that feels deliberate, confident and hard-earned.
Carrying the weight of growing buzz, Outlier finds the band leaning into a fuller, more driving direction. Across its six tracks, there’s a clear move toward a broader, more anthemic sound, while still holding onto the urgency that has defined their rapid climb. Production comes from Richard McNamara, guitarist with Embrace, whose influence adds a sense of scale and precision, helping shape a sound that feels both immediate and expansive.
There’s no shortage of punch. ‘State Of Things’ and ‘Your Take’ open with force, built on tight drums and layered guitars, while ‘Soldered Souls’ offers a more spacious, emotionally weighted moment. Taken together, the EP presents a band growing into a bigger version of themselves, writing with both intensity and reach.
Speaking about the release, the band frame Outlier as their most exploratory work so far. “It’s a deeply introspective account of the struggles and emotional challenges that we each face,” they say. “Each song represents an emotion people might see as a vulnerability, but they are actually universal.” Themes of love, loss, fear and intrusive thoughts thread through the record, giving its larger sound a grounded, human edge.
