Marsha Swanson isn’t afraid to dig deep. With her new single Generational Transmission, and its striking claymation video, she turns family history, inherited trauma, and resilience into something both intimate and universal.
Known for her thoughtful songwriting and progressive pop sound, Swanson leans into influences from Peter Gabriel to Fiona Apple while carving her own space. The video, her fifth collaboration with director Sam Chegini, brings the story to life through hand-sculpted figures “Clayton” and “Clayopatra,” a fragile yet powerful metaphor for how identity and memory are shaped across generations.
Recorded at London’s iconic Konk Studios, the track features lush arrangements and standout performances from jazz violinist Benet McClean and drummer Keith Prior. Hypnotic and expansive, it feels like a conversation between past and future, an invitation to reflect on what we inherit, and what we choose to pass along.
