Country music has spent the last few years becoming genuinely global. The UK has been slower than most to find its own voice in the genre. Marta is doing that work with patience, craft, and a growing international audience that suggests she is doing it well.
The London-based singer-songwriter returns with 'In Another Life': a track about the one that got away, written from a place of hard-won clarity rather than lingering regret. The song began with a single lyric and was written in under thirty minutes. "It came from a very real feeling and memory," Marta explains. "It's about those moments where you wonder what if. But it's also about realising that sometimes the person you thought was perfect for you wasn't actually meant for you. It became a very cathartic song for me, about healing, becoming stronger, and not waiting for someone else to come and save you."
That movement from heartbreak to self-possession is where Marta is most interesting as a songwriter. The emotional honesty is country. The production is polished, contemporary pop. The perspective is distinctly her own: an international artist based in London, making space for a genre that is still finding its footing in the British mainstream by refusing to simply replicate the Nashville blueprint.
The credentials behind that ambition are already considerable. Her debut single 'All About Us' hit number one in Germany and number four in Norway on the Google Play Country charts in its first week. Her follow-up premiered on Taste of Country and held the top spot on their Best Music Video of the Week chart for over a month. She has performed at CMA Fest in Nashville, accumulated 200k followers across social media, and placed music in mobile games with over a billion downloads between them.
'In Another Life' arrives ahead of an EP due this summer, and it carries the weight of an artist who knows exactly what she is building. UK country is finding its moment. Marta has been preparing for it for a while.
