It's been a year, almost to the day, since 'carolina blue' landed, delivered by alt-folk newbie Matz Patrick. That single appeared later, in October, on the 5-track EP, 'sweet reminder.' Closing in on 100,000 streams, that is quite the debut.
Recharged, refreshed, and repurposed, switching from Americana to Anglocana in terms of visuals. Less hay, more lavender- 'augustine' is Matz Patrick's new creation.
"'augustine' is about that strange place after a breakup where someone's gone but their presence is louder than ever. It's in the kitchen, in the sheets, in a football shirt across the room. I wanted it to feel less like a haunting and more like a warmth that won't leave. I called it 'augustine' because it's my favourite name. There's something nostalgic about it, like a fading book you'd find on a shelf” offers Matz.
This latest work is the calm after the storm, with string lines, banjo, and vulnerable vocal performance from Matz. 'augustine' could well be a Lizzy McAlpine single, or a release by any of the three boygeniuses, but this intelligent single is not just taking from the genre's big hitters. 'augustine' is beautifully written, elegantly produced, and is very much a Matz Patrick single.
