Melinda Joy returns with dreamy new single ‘Deadly’

Melinda Joy has released “Deadly”, a new jazz-pop and indie-folk single exploring the idea that endings can create space for something new.
The song was sparked by a melody that came to Joy while she was between sleep and waking, alongside the line “It’s been a little deadly in my dream.” She recorded the idea immediately before completing the lyrics in one sitting.
The finished track combines electric bass, drums, piano, guitar, keyboards and layered vocals, balancing its reflective subject with a brighter, spacious arrangement.
Based between Austin, Texas and Mexico, Joy works across music, writing and film, with her songwriting often drawing on psychology, spirituality and creativity.
“Deadly” follows a productive run of collaborations in 2026 and arrives as Joy continues work on her next album, which is now being developed with London producer Antony Galatis of Uptown Studios.
