North West indie quartet Movin’ On continue their impressive rise with the release of their second single, How We Used To, arriving on 29th May. Following a debut that earned airplay from Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, the band return with a bold and confident follow-up that further showcases their growing potential.
Blending emotionally sincere songwriting with driving indie energy, How We Used To captures both the raw intensity of the band's live performances and their knack for crafting relatable, impactful lyrics. Frontman Elijah Jenkins delivers a standout vocal performance, his distinctive voice sitting effortlessly above the guitar-led instrumentation to create a sound that feels both intimate and expansive.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Jenkins explains: "How We Used To is about forgetting the bad times with a certain person in your life and reflecting on the nostalgia of the good times. I wrote it between my second and third year at university in Manchester reflecting on the past year and things that had happened. You know you're better off without the person but you still remember the good times and there's that part of you that wonders, 'if you play pretend', it'll all be alright."
What began as a solo project for singer and guitarist Elijah Jenkins has rapidly evolved into a dynamic four-piece outfit making waves across the North West music scene. Expanding from its acoustic roots into a fuller, more collaborative sound, Movin’ On have built a reputation for energetic live shows that balance emotional depth with a sharp indie edge.
The band's name, originally born from a WhatsApp conversation, quickly became a fitting reflection of the themes that run throughout their music: nostalgia, escapism and the determination to keep moving forward.
That momentum has been steadily building. Recent appearances at Deva Fest, Noisy Weekender and multiple This Feeling showcases have introduced the band to audiences across the region, while debut full-band single Absolutelymarked a major breakthrough. Released earlier this year, the track has surpassed 30,000 streams and secured national radio support, including airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music alongside a host of UK stations.
The success of Absolutely was followed by another milestone when Movin’ On played their debut headline show to a sold-out crowd at Liverpool's iconic Jacaranda.
Now, with How We Used To, the quartet take another significant step forward. Balancing wistful nostalgia with an undeniable sense of urgency, the single demonstrates a band growing in confidence and ambition while further cementing their status as one of the North West's most exciting emerging indie acts.
