There is a particular kind of honesty that can only emerge when an artist stops trying to have all the answers. And on his debut EP 'Trampoline', Melbourne/Naarm songwriter MUKI embraces that uncertainty completely, delivering a collection that feels like a conversation with himself.

From its opening moments, 'Trampoline' establishes itself as an intimate listening experience. MUKI’s songwriting is rooted in observation and vulnerability, allowing emotions to unfold naturally, and the EP’s title offers an intriguing lens through which to view the project. Childhood memories, joy, nostalgia and pain all coexist throughout these songs, reflecting the way formative experiences continue to shape us long after they have passed.

Lead track 'My Sweet Anxiety' immediately sets the emotional tone. Built around delicate guitar work and understated arrangements, it captures the exhausting contradiction of living with anxious thoughts while still searching for optimism. There is a fragility to the performance that makes the song particularly affecting, as though we are being invited into thoughts usually left unspoken.

Elsewhere, 'Gasoline' examines the lingering aftermath of a relationship’s collapse. But rather than leaning into bitterness, the song sits within the uncomfortable space between acceptance and loss. The spacious production allows every lyric room to breathe, creating a sense of emotional weight without becoming overwhelming.

'Reflections' may be the EP’s most introspective moment. Here, MUKI turns his focus toward identity and personal growth, navigating questions that rarely come with simple solutions. Rich instrumentation and layered melodies support some of the record’s strongest songwriting, highlighting his ability to balance emotional depth with memorable musicality.

While closing track 'Morning Music' provides a fitting conclusion. Beginning with gentle acoustic restraint before gradually expanding into something far larger, it mirrors the emotional arc of the EP itself. What starts as uncertainty slowly transforms into catharsis, offering a sense of release without pretending life’s complications have been neatly resolved.

Throughout 'Trampoline', MUKI demonstrates a maturity that belies this being his first EP. There are echoes of contemporary indie-folk and acoustic pop throughout, yet the release’s strength lies in its authenticity. Every song feels shaped by genuine experience and delivered with sincerity.

In an era where vulnerability is often treated as a marketing tool, 'Trampoline' feels refreshingly genuine. It's a thoughtful, emotionally resonant debut that captures the messy reality of growing up and learning to live with uncertainty. More importantly, it introduces MUKI as a songwriter capable of finding beauty in life’s contradictions and turning them into something quietly powerful.
