There’s a particular kind of song built for 2am; when the city outside has quieted but your thoughts haven’t. Nównøis understands that hour intimately, and with 'incomplete (the shinobu version)', the London-based producer and vocalist reshapes her earlier single into something hushed, shadow-drenched and achingly close.

The pulse of the original remains steady, and the skeleton is intact, but the atmosphere has shifted entirely. Where the original carried tension in its spine, this iteration exhales. The percussion lands with restraint, each beat clipped and deliberate. While a thick, low-end current moves beneath everything, and wide pockets of silence become part of the architecture.

Vocally, Nównøis leans further into vulnerability. Her delivery hovers just above a whisper, as if sharing secrets directly into our ear. Lines about slipping and struggling to stay upright are rendered with a quiet fragility that makes them hit even harder.

What makes this version compelling is its emotional recalibration. Instead of pushing back against the chaos, it seems to sit with it. The fierceness that often drives her work is replaced by something softer and more contemplative.

The production draws from the murkier corners of alternative R&B and downtempo electronica, but it never feels derivative. Nównøis’ background as a sound designer is evident in the way textures bleed into one another, and the subtle layering that reveals itself on repeat listens. This is headphone music in the purest sense, rewarding those who lean in.

As part of her unfolding 'EP1•verses' chapter, this release signals an artist unafraid to revisit her own material and find new emotional truths within it. 'incomplete (the shinobu version)' draws you closer, and once you’re there, it refuses to let go.
