London-based British-Australian artist Oscar November has released the new single, 'Anything', an immersive and hazy summer soundscape that further cements his place within the UK’s emerging psychedelic indie scene.
Released on 22 May, 'Anything' draws listeners into Oscar November’s distinctive sonic world, blending introspective songwriting with rich, atmospheric production. The track offers a glimpse into what the artist describes as his “busy mind,” pairing reflective lyricism with expansive instrumentation to create a deeply personal listening experience.
Developing his sound between bedroom recording sessions and DIY studios stretching from the Suffolk countryside to Lyon, France, Oscar has cultivated a style that feels both intimate and cinematic. His music combines psychedelic textures with indie sensibilities, drawing influence from artists including Jungle, Glass Animals and Caribou, while embracing the adventurous, left-field energy associated with MGMT, Dijon and Mk.gee.
That same creative intensity extends to his live performances. Known for dynamic, multi-instrumental sets and powerful live drumming, Oscar delivers immersive shows that translate the emotional depth and sonic richness of his recordings to the stage.
The release of Anything follows a growing wave of recognition for the artist. Support from BBC Radio 6 Music, Emily Pilbeam’s Introducing Mixtape, and a BBC Introducing Track of the Week accolade across Suffolk and Norfolk have helped build momentum around his work, with the new single already attracting attention across the airwaves.
Speaking about the origins of the track, Oscar recalls a formative creative breakthrough that took place during a recording trip in rural France:
“The moment I landed on the riff, which is just the simplest guitar part in the world, I was with my friends in the dead heat of a summer day, and we just went mad over it, I was screaming, hooting, hollering and all that in our little makeshift studio, on the top floor of this pretty ramshackle, rundown little barn on a hill amongst the foothills of the alps, outside of a tiny village a few hours from Lyon, in France, cos’ my friends Mathieu and Dimitri who I make music with live out there. So we’re in the middle of nowhere basically, and we’ve been there for days and days by this point, I’ve been barely sleeping on the floor of this place, and I’m delirious from the heat pretty much, and it was just this total release… I can feel that every time I listen to it. It transports me right back to that moment. Later that night, after we’d made some progress with the song and the arrangement and stuff, and the heat settled down a bit, we sat back and listened to what we’d done that day, and there was this moment where we all looked at each other, and I think we could all tell something special had happened. It felt like a door had opened or something. And now that we’re playing live a fair bit, it seems to be having an effect on strangers too…”
That sense of spontaneity and shared discovery lies at the heart of 'Anything'. Capturing the euphoric energy of a fleeting moment and translating it into a lush, transportive soundscape, the single marks another compelling step forward for an artist steadily building a reputation for inventive songwriting and immersive production.
With increasing support from broadcasters, growing live audiences and a steadily expanding catalogue of ambitious releases, Oscar November is continuing to establish himself as one of the most intriguing new voices emerging from the psychedelic indie landscape.
