On her latest single 'waste a life', German indie-pop artist philine delivers one of her most vulnerable moments to date, a softly devastating track that marks a turning point in her songwriting. Known for pairing vivid emotional detail with understated, shimmering melodies, philine steps further into clarity with this release, trading fantasy for reckoning.
Written at a moment of personal exhaustion and emotional paralysis, 'waste a life' captures the quiet frustration of realising just how much fear can hold you back. “I was 23, still scared of so many things in life,” she says. “I was constantly feeding into all of my fears and felt like I was missing out on so much of the good stuff. Writing this song felt like a turning point — I don’t want to waste a life like that.”
Released as the closing track to her new EP 'the truth of living in reality', 'waste a life' feels like a deep breath after a long period of emotional spiralling. It’s a simple but powerful acknowledgment: that fear may have shaped the past, but it doesn’t have to shape the future.
