Emric John Sawyer, aka Re Teu, is a London-based artist with roots in folk and enchanting soundscapes, which have all gathered together to form 'St. Brendan', his latest single. With Matt Berninger-esque vocals and production, Re Teu's latest work is unmistakably poignant and is an expansive creative vision. The moody opening blooms into a vibrant celebration with soaring strings narrating the track's climax, and comes complete with deep melodies and distant howls. This atmospheric release precedes the Voyages EP, which is released later this year.
Re Teu explinas: “I wrote this song in 2017 about leaving someone you love because of time and place. It was then brought back to life in 2024 after feeling comfortable enough to share the story. A story of letting go of something you want for the good of all involved, St.Brendan is titled after the saint of the seas to watch over people making a voyage across unsure waters, trusting the tide to take them through. This is a single for an upcoming EP titled Voyages and a headline show in London to accompany.”
This project was forged in Nottingham during education, and since then, Re Teu has come on leaps and bounds with support from the BBC, including Radio Nottingham and 6 Music, later championed by Charlie Ashcroft at Amazing Radio. With sold-out shows including The Grace London and Rescue Rooms as well as Rough Trade Nottingham, Ray Too has supported artists such as Another Sky and Adam French on tour.
