Over the last few years, Seattle-based singer-songwriter S.J. Armstrong has established himself as one of the warmer and more alluring names on the rise. And after a scattering of much-loved singles throughout his infancy, he cemented his legacy with the outstanding debut album 'The Narrow Coast' last year. Now figuring out where to take his sound next, he returns with the captivating new offering 'Summer Sunshine'.
Much like what we have come to love from him over the years, 'Summer Sunshine' is a beautifully rich and embracing new release. Brimming this wonderfully inventive aesthetic that adds a euphoric edge to a progressive folk-pop direction, he looks to continue the vibrant ascent that his initial LP first garnered him with.
Adding about the track, he said, "Songwriting is my true passion, and I enjoy delving into the depths of my emotions during late-night sessions. 'Summer Sunshine' is a tribute to my Southern California roots, a love letter to the summers of my youth that now exist solely as cherished memories. Through this song, I aimed to capture the bittersweet realization that the world I grew up in has undergone profound changes."
Although it does feel a more atmospheric that what his older material sometimes explored, 'Summer Sunshine' is more about showing us the beginnings of the next phase within his musical evolution. Branching out into new and unexplored ideas, it feels like he is gearing up to release another very special collection very soon.
