Mumbai-born London native Saachisen is an alt-pop specialist, coming to the fore in her latest offering The Girl That Was Made Of Antimatter. Channeling Imogen Heap and Regina Spektor, whilst firmly in her own lane, with delicate strings, piano lines, and vocals that switch from intimate to richly processed vocoder synthesis. Produced alongside long-time collaborator Dave Leondi (Abbey Road Institute), this space-age ballad is arguably the strongest and most fun work from Saachisen.
Beyond her songwriting and choral background, saachisen holds a masters in electronic engineering, fusing with her deep love of storytelling into a lifelong fascination with science fiction. In her words, “just like engineering as a discipline, sci-fi is a genre characterised by possibility - which is why to me, it feels so natural and exciting to write about.”
“The Girl That Was Made of Antimatter is a science fiction story told through the medium of alternative pop. I wrote the chorus originally about the sense of feeling othered; sometimes so distant from a situation or set of people that I may as well have been their polar opposite.” explains Saachisen. “It combined so many of my joys and I’m excited for it to be the first of a planned, fully sci-fi themed EP.”
Having had a residency at London’s Iconic Roundhouse Theatre, with shows at PRIDE, the Indian Embassy in Berlin, and the BBC’s support via their introducing platform, Saachi won Best Emerging artist at the Eastern Eye ACTAs, which celebrate UK South Asian Arts, joining the likes of Charli XCX.
