Saige is a rising star in the Irish music scene. Even though her back catalogue is small, her sound is signature and well-developed, leading her to national radio support and later a sold-out headline show. ‘Sparks’ is her latest offering and is a step up for the singer-songwriter, showcasing an even more mature sound.
‘Sparks’ does everything a single needs to - it will pick you up and entice you in. Irresistible drums cut through the mix, reverberating energy around the track, whilst synths ebb and flow in between, creating a fantastic partnership. On top lies Saige’s vocals, emotional but infectious, the lyrics paint a clear picture of the problems that come with young love.
Speaking further about this she says: “I’d been listening to Olivia Rodrigo’s album Sour at the time, which covers her feelings on teenage heartbreak. It kind of dragged me back to how that felt and how high emotions were - for me it really felt like my world was ending.
Inspired, I wrote Sparks about my own experience. I was young, naïve and in over my head. He had essentially said I had rose-tinted glasses on about love, and I said to him I’d rather love love than become cynical. Sparks depicts those final conversations and moments.”
‘Sparks’ is the title track from her debut EP being released in early 2023. If this single is anything to go by, the EP is something that should definitely be on your radar.
