Suffolk indie-folk newcomer Samuel Taylor has signed to No Roads Records and released the beautiful new single ‘Little World’.
Suffolk forest in 2025 with fully formed, emotionally resonant songs that feel at once familiar and new. At just 23, he is already carving out a sound that is cinematic, transportive and gorgeously his own, drawing comparisons to old favourites while remaining impossible to pin down.
His upbringing in rural Suffolk shaped the roots of his music. Childhood days spent swimming in rivers, cycling through forests and listening to his father’s bluegrass records led him to teach himself banjo by ear, before moving on to guitar. A contemporary music degree and time spent as an Americana session player opened new doors, introducing him to heroes like Bear’s Den and Johnny Flynn, and inspiring his own path into indie folk – writing songs of love, longing and resilience that offer comfort even in the darkest moments.
‘Little World’ was produced and mixed by Jesse Quin (Keane, Mt. Desolation) at Old Jet, a studio based on an abandoned Cold War airbase, and mastered by Kevin Tuffy at Tuff Mastering. From the gently plucked guitar and intimate opening vocal, the track grows into a sweeping soundscape with strings, keys, banjo and percussion, showcasing Taylor’s gift for blending fragility with strength. The recording features Taylor on vocals, guitar and banjo, Quin on drums, bass and keys, with Ross Holmes on violin and Paul Frith contributing arrangements.
Speaking about the single, Taylor says: “With Little World I wanted to show the feelings of loving someone who has a fragility that we didn’t cause, but becomes part of our life too. It asks how we navigate a relationship that contains a damage that’s nobody’s fault, but sometimes feels impossible to fix. I wrote the chorus, ‘I’m tired of trying for you’, about those moments when brokenness resurfaces and threatens to pull you apart – but also the resilience of moving through it together. It’s about finding the courage to reveal the parts of ourselves we fear others won’t accept, and the reward of seeing the person you love begin to feel safe.”
Taylor’s signing to No Roads Records came after he played his earliest songs to Quin earlier this year. Quin signed him on the spot, convinced by the strength of his songwriting and unique voice.
From his beginnings in the middle of nowhere to his debut release recorded on a disused airbase, Samuel Taylor’s journey is already shaping into the story of a folk artist with a world of his own. If ‘Little World’ is any indication, that world is about to get much bigger.
