Talk In Code have always understood the value of a chorus that arrives with both hands in the air, and 'What I've Been Missing' gives them another one.

The Swindon band's latest single bridges 80s new wave sheen with the more polished immediacy of modern indie-pop, pairing bright electronic textures, racing momentum and a huge hook with lyrics about the uneasy thrill of finally finding someone who feels right.

At its core, 'What I've Been Missing' is about the gap between wanting connection and being frightened by what it might actually mean. Frontman Chris Stevens frames it through the familiar "Where have you been all my life?" feeling, while guitarist Alastair Sneddon describes the song as an internal monologue full of excitement, hesitation and the anxiety of admitting that somebody may be filling a space you had grown used to carrying.

The sound has clear roots in the melodic power-pop and new wave traditions of Duran Duran, Go West and Deacon Blue, but there's also a contemporary indie sensibility that places the track closer to the worlds of The 1975, Two Door Cinema Club and Fickle Friends.

Their music has always thrived on immediacy, and 'What I've Been Missing' wastes little time getting to the point. The production is bright, direct and built for movement, allowing the emotional release of the chorus to land as both romantic catharsis and something far more communal.

Recorded at The Pines Studio in Berkshire, the track arrives during a period of real momentum for Talk In Code. Following six wins at the 2025 Wiltshire Music Awards, more than a million streams and a growing live reputation, the band continue to build around the connection they have established with their fan community.

'What I've Been Missing' is ultimately a song about recognising when something absent suddenly becomes visible. And Talk In Code make that realisation sound like the moment the entire room lights up.
