New York-based indie rockers The Backfires have today unveiled their highly-anticipated debut album 'This Is Not An Exit', showcased by its emotive title-track. Following a series of hard-hitting singles, the 10-track collection captures the band’s evolution into a force to be reckoned with in the modern indie rock scene.
Packed with high-octane energy and deeply personal narratives, 'This Is Not An Exit' represents a culmination of the band’s influences and experiences. “On paper, we’ve been a band since 2018,” the band shares. “But for us, there’s a feeling we only really became a band in 2022 when we started living together in New York City, practicing and writing in a rundown rehearsal studio six nights a week.”
The album’s title was inspired by a backstage sign at Mercury Lounge, where the band played their first New York show. It also reflects the album’s central themes: navigating the missteps and growing pains of early adulthood. “It’s the soundtrack of our journey so far and a love letter to the guitar music we grew up on,” the band adds.
