Tuning Everything Else Out For One Of The Greats
Updated: Sep 17
A Review Of Papa George’s Latest Effort.
When a blues legend drops a new record, I tune every other music out to give it a listen. When I heard Papa George had dropped a new album, the switch from what I was listening to over to his new record was almost subconscious. His music has such a depth of soul and power to it that I can’t help but obsess over it. ‘These Wheels’ is the title, and it is vastly appropriate as this record will absolutely take you for a ride.
One such track is the rip roaring ‘Bad Boy.’ The energy is practically manic on this track. Papa George’s vocals are almost guttural, and they drip with feeling. He is equally ablaze with his guitar. He uses it to inject a shot of adrenaline into this track.
A more laid-back, yet equally soulful track is ‘Love Won’t Die In Vain.’ He takes his time on this one. He lets the energy of the music burn slow and hot. Absolutely stunning.
I don’t think it really matters what kind of music you typically listen to. This record is for you. I don’t think anyone could listen to it without feeling something good. That is the magic of Papa George.
