Blairstown’s own Water Street return with 'Closer', a track that feels both familiar and refreshingly vibrant, setting the tone for their forthcoming album on 'Free Dive Collective'. Anchored by the lively presence of Julia Aiello’s vocals, the single showcases the band’s evolution, fusing blues-tinged electric guitars with a dynamic horn section that gives the song a celebratory lift without ever veering into excess.

From the first strum, 'Closer' radiates a sense of openness, capturing the delicate balance between hope and vulnerability that defines the track’s lyrical core. Written collectively by the band’s six members, the song embodies the thrill of surrendering to possibility and the joy of connection, a sentiment mirrored in the buoyant arrangement. The rhythm section drives the track forward with purpose, while the horns punctuate each chorus with a playful warmth.. Yet Water Street’s signature electric guitar lines anchor the song firmly in indie-rock territory, giving the nostalgic nods to ’80s textures a modern, crisp edge.

Producer Tyler Ripley’s touch at Philadelphia’s Little Brother Audio Recording ensures that each instrument occupies its own space, creating a soundscape that feels expansive yet intimate. The interplay between Aiello’s vocals, the horn section, and the guitar riffs is layered but never cluttered, demonstrating a confidence and intentionality in the band’s songwriting and arrangement that marks a maturation in their work.

'Closer' highlights Water Street’s knack for combining accessible pop hooks with musicianship that rewards close listening. The optimism threaded through the track feels earned rather than performative, a testament to the band’s understanding of narrative, groove, and emotional resonance. With this release, Water Street stake their claim as purveyors of melodic indie-rock that’s both heartful and invigorating.
