We Sit Down With: Kailaya

We sat down with Kailaya after the release of her stellar new single 'Montenegro For The Summer', to discuss what influences her. Be sure to check out the single at the bottom and follow her on socials!

Tell us about yourself as an artist?

I am an RnB soul inspired songwriter in Los Angeles. First to be born and raised out here in my Ukrainian-Russian family. I am also a trained dancer and actor.

What got you into music?

Since I was little I was always in love with dance, acting, and poetry. At 15 I started writing a poetry book and continued writing through college. I focused more on athletics actually until I became super sad and unfulfilled my sophomore year of college. Couldn’t put a pin on what exactly felt out of space so I took a semester off and lived with my family in Ukraine. There I started dancing and singing again. Eventually it naturally pulled me into writing and then I just stuck with it.

How would you describe your sound?

I get a lot of inspiration from neo-soul, jazz, and blues. Although my writing can fall under an RnB and Alternative sound.

What is your favourite venue to play?

Hands down, my favorite venue thus far has been The Troubadour. It was magical and so inspiring to be up on that stage.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would be so grateful to collaborate with Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, Cleo Sol, and Jaz Karis. So many others but those are the ones I have in the forefront of my mind right now. Such inspiring artists.

What is your creative process, and do you think it differs from others?

I write the best records after an interesting experience, story, or person comes into my life. That usually will spark a lyrical flow and then I see where it takes me.

What is special about this song to you?

It honestly just makes me so happy and relaxes me. Also makes me want to dance which is most important for me when working on the production side of things. I am really proud of how it feels.
