We sat down with young rising artist Annah Marcelle after the release of her track "Running in Circles" to find out more about her influences.
1. Midnight Rain - Taylor Swift
"I am a huge Taylor Swift fan, but this is by far one of my favorite songs of hers! The lyrics are genius, and I love the unique vocal effect because it is different from anything else Taylor has done."
2. Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls
"This song is an all time favorite of mine! This song says so much without saying much at all. The instrumentation is gorgeous, and it is such a classic."
3. opposite - Sabrina Carpenter
"Sabrina Carpenter has been an obsession of mine this year and this song is everything! Every time it comes on I don’t ever skip it. The difference in meaning of the word opposite is so genius too."
4. Footnote - Conan Gray
"I love all of Conan Gray’s music, and I have been a fan of his for a little while, but when I first heard ‘Footnote’ I knew it was going to be one of my favorite songs of his. The story it tells is reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s ‘tolerate it’ and I think that is why I love it so much."
5. Best - Gracie Abrams
"I love Gracie Abrams’ music, and I love the melody of this song. It is the opening song of her album ‘Good Riddance’ and I think that was a great choice. This is one of those songs that tells a story with its lyrics, while also leaving room for so much to infer."
