Following the release of their latest single, 'Tully Jackson's Hill', Flex caught up with The Cox County Clappers to find out what artists influence their 'Mountain Rock' sound. If you enjoy their picks, be sure to check out 'Tully Jackson's Hill' at the end of the article.

1. Alexis Cunningham - Nice to Know You

I heard this on WMOT in Nashville, pretty recently. Check out the pre-chorus--very dramatic. Reminds me of "Here's Where the Story Ends" by the Sundays.

2. Blackfoot - Fly Away

This sounds like Blackfoot ready to be super-radio-friendly.... And it works. It is the "Jump" of Southern Rock.

3. Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides

9 minutes and 45 seconds. Too short. It used to be on rock radio as much as Freebird. Let's bring it back!

4. Marshall Tucker Band - This Ol' Cowboy

Southern-rock-jazz. We need more of this. Amazing fiddle (Charlie Daniels), guitar, drums, flute... I don't know if this song was popular when it was released. I think it's getting popular now. Marcus King does a great version.

5. Neon Trees - 1983

With Neon Trees, I like to wait for the chorus to see what they will do. Never disappointing.
