Wayne Banks Announces Himself With 'World We Share', and It's a Statement

Some artists spend years in the background before they get their

moment out front, and Wayne Banks has earned his.

A Nottingham bass player with credits alongside Robin Gibb, Saxon and The Classic Rock Show, Banks has been the reliable name behind other people's spotlights for a long time. With 'World We Share', his debut solo single, he finally claims one of his own.

And what an opener it is. This is big, unapologetic indie rock built for singing back at the top of your lungs, the sort of chorus that immediately feels like it belongs at a festival with a few thousand other people shouting along. Think the terrace-ready energy of Oasis or The Jam, filtered through Banks' own voice and experience.

But don't let the singalong hooks fool you into thinking this is empty calories. Underneath the big chorus is a genuinely personal story. Banks has talked openly about how the track grew out of his own childhood on a council estate in Nottingham, watching people judged and divided by class and background. Rather than replicate that division, though, 'World We Share' pushes hard in the opposite direction, championing unity and refusing to let anyone be boxed in or ignored.

"So while my upbringing definitely shaped the themes in my music, this song is almost the opposite of what I was surrounded by," Banks has said, "it's about unity, freedom of expression, and people standing together instead of tearing each other apart."

That's a genuinely good mission statement for a debut single, and Banks backs it up with a track that sounds every bit as accomplished as his CV would suggest, unsurprising given it was mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

If this is Banks just clearing his throat, the rest of the campaign is going to be worth paying close attention to. Second single 'Cold River' arrives 22nd September, with a debut album landing in November, and on the strength of 'World We Share' alone, this feels like the start of something built to last well beyond one single.

Turn it up, sing along, and get ready to hear a lot more from Wayne Banks before the year is out.
