We sat down with the incredible Deja Vu, who are shining bright these days! We learn more about what they're listening to and how it shapes their sound. Be sure to check out their new single at the bottom!

Talking Heads - This must be the place

This is one song that the four of us all love. I think the influence of this song comes out in our music in how its lyrics come from quite a vulnerable place but this is almost disguised behind the catchy guitar and synth parts and the upbeat sound. Despite the amazing production on this song, its so well written that its still perfect even when you strip it back to just an acoustic guitar and a voice. This is something we aim for with every one of our songs.

Sam Fender - Arm's Length

Sam Fender is such a big influence on our sound and even more so with his latest album. This song is a favourite of ours and I think in part that comes down to its simplicity. It shows the effect that a great hook can have in a really good song and that sometimes less is more when it comes to songwriting and production. A struggle for us since we started has been knowing when to stop adding instruments/parts to songs and just recognising when a song has everything it needs.

Kingfishr - Shot in the Dark

Kingfishr are a big influence on us these days and its really exciting to see a young Irish band doing so well. This song in particular hits close to home as it gets at the idea of really pursuing music and putting your time and energy into it. Working on original music and getting it out into the world is such a crazy process these days and sometimes it feels impossible to keep going with it but at the end of the day we stand behind the art we are putting out there and want to give it the best chance we can at being heard. Our sound is different from the Kingfishr lads and theirs is a lot more folk/trad based but we definitely feel their influence in what we are doing these days.

Wunderhorse - Teal

For us this song is just raw emotion. You can feel the passion in the band's performance and the vulnerability in the lyrics. Wunderhorse are such a great band and hearing them reminds us that at the end of the day we are also a live band. In the studio we put a lot of work into our production (multitracking, layering vocals/synths guitars etc) but we really love playing our songs live and every time we do it we want to give it our all. I'd like to think that anyone who sees us play live sees this come across.

Bel X1 - Rocky Took a Lover

We are obsessed with this song. Again, another amazing Irish act. To us it is just an example of amazing songwriting from the melody to the lyrics. It combines beautiful imagery with witty and funny lines but still feels so emotional. We love the stripped back version from St Luke's as well. Maybe we should get a full orchestra in for our next song.

Deja Vu - I Love You Anyway
