We sat down with the incredible Emily Ryan on the release of her fantastic new single 'All The Time' to find out more about what makes her unique sound. Be sure to check out the new track at the bottom and follow her along her journey on socials! You and I - Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is my idol, I could write pages and pages of why I think she is so brilliant and inspiring but ill spare you the long story. While I could do this entire thing based on her songs I’ll stick to my favorite song. Which is also my favorite song of all time. I love songs that have a good story and this is exactly that. It’s not exactly a ballad but you can sing it in any setting because the story and the dynamics are so good. I covered it in my last show and people went wild. I’ve seen her do it on piano live and it was just as awesome as the whole band version. I think songs with a story that can be played in many ways are really my favorite because they adapt based on the environment just like real life and they move like their alive.
River - Bishop Briggs
I love powerful vocals. I myself have a big voice that I had to learn to control. I think this song is a great example of a powerful controlled vocal and we don’t get tracks like this too often. I think the rawness of the vocal is also something I’m always looking to do in my music. I love recording on a dry mic because I love the rasp and the grit. Briggs really does that in the chorus of this piece. The instermental of this song being so simple is also something that I love. I did a simple instermental on a few of my tracks and I think when done well it makes the vocals even better!
Kiwi - Harry Styles
I grew up on 80’s rock and roll and I deeply love it. But I couldn’t select a single song. So I think this song is a great emulation of old school rock and roll redone. Which is a lot of what I want my music to feel like. Full band pieces really hit me in the soul. Not only are they fun to do live but they are fun to make. And the energy of songs like this is contagious and hard to not love. I want to be a rock star so this for me is the right baseline to make 80s rock new again.
Bad Guy - Billie Eillish
I was never a goth kid growing up, but I love anything spooky. I’ve said in the studio many times “make it spookier” this song is exactly what I mean. The vibes give dark and mysterious but also a little sexy almost. I know its not the lane for everyone but I love it. I grew up doing theater so I definitely am not opposed to the dramatics of it and I constantly think about what a song would look like live on tour and I think songs like this sounds so amazing in stadiums and stadiums is my goal.
Dog Days Are Over - Florence + the Machine
I love when songs get wildly creative and don’t make sense until they just do. What I mean buy this is lots of building within the piece. bridges that are unnessary but captivating and a baseline that makes you clap. This song does not only do that but also tells a great story while doing everything cool. It basically takes “you and I” and “River” and combines my opinions of those songs in one piece. I’ve heard this song quite literally over a thousand times and I still love it every time. I want someone to feel that way about
something I create. I think as songwriters this is really the goal and for me this is a perfect example of it.
