5 Songs I Love w/ Feels Like Fire

Following the release of their latest single 'She's On Fire (Uptown Girl)' we caught up with US indie-pop-rock band 'Feels Like Fire' to find out more about what influences their eclectic sound. If you enjoy their picks be sure to check out 'She's on Fire (Uptown Girl)' at the end of the article.

1. Whiskeytown "Everything I do"

"I remember seeing a TV rerun of this performance as a teenager.  I was in my parents basement, strumming on my acoustic guitar, as I did endlessly in those days. Something about the beauty of this bands music, mixed with singer Ryan Adams gritty, raw vocal performance...it was like bells started ringing.  I finally found the equation I was looking for in my own music!"

2. Coldplay "Fix You"

"This song blew me away when it was released, and still does every time I listen.  I'm a big fan of music that crescendos, start small, hook the listener, & take them on a dynamic ride.  Cheers Coldplay, you nailed this one, and I learned a lot listening to this song on repeat!"

3. Oasis "Live Forever"

"I'm a huge fan of 1990's rock music, and this song by Oasis is a perfect representation of that amazing decade.  Liam Gallagher is one of my all time favorite rock singers/front men.  To me, he epitomizes the "rock star" that I feel is so absent in today's music.  "I think you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see...you and I are gonna live forever".

4. Radiohead "Let Down"

"Radiohead are like musical scientists, and their 2 albums "The Bends" and "Ok Computer" are 2 of the most well-crafted pieces of work I've ever heard.  They figured out how to take complicated instrumentation and present it in a way that sounds easy & simple to the listener.  I could've picked any track off of those records, but I chose this one because of the lyric "let down & hanging around"...a phrase that nostalgically lives in my mind reminding me of the way I felt when I was very young & creating my musical craft."

5. Pearl Jam "Nothing Man"

"Something about the way this 1990s grunge band turned down on this one...such a simple, beautifully written track that evokes so much emotion.  I have no clue what this song is about, but every time I listen, I feel like I can relate so well, like its somehow a soundtrack to different periods in my life.  I can only hope that my music lives in someone else's mind in the same way."
