Following the release of her latest single 'Soul Behind The Face', Flex caught up with rising pop artist Kripa to find out what influences her cinematic brand of pop music. If you enjoy Kripa's picks, be sure to check out 'Soul Behind The Face' at the end of the article.

1. “Vision of love” - Mariah Carey

This song was one of my childhood favorites- I fell in love with Mariah Carey’s voice from the first time I heard it. I love voices, and her agility and range just blew me away, along with her emotional delivery. I’m still fascinated by those whistle notes! Also, the lyrics and melodies hold up with so much longevity still.

2. “Vienna” - Billy Joel

Ok, Billy Joel is a whole other category of amazing. He has such a unique, standout style of singing, but along with his standout vocals and melodic changes in this song, it’s the meaning of this song that moves me deeply every time I hear it. Maybe because this is a bit of the journey I’m on right now :)

3. “Oscar’s Winning Tears” - Raye

Raye is one of those newer artists who is blowing me away, and I’m such a fan girl! Her songs are all so unique, energetic and fun, with different elements mixed in one, not to mention the emotion and vocals she delivers are incredible. These are the songs you vibe to with your girlfriends! I love singing her songs too, and this one is one of my favorites!

“Killing Me Softly” - FUGEES

The second I heard the voice of Lauryn Hill, I was hooked! This song is so poetic and has such a unique style and take from the original (which I love too). This track just always gets me going. It has always been one of those go-to songs I could listen to and sing for the rest of my life. I try learning from her style to how I sing pop songs now :)

5. “She used to be mine” - Sarah Bareilles:

Ok I just LOVE her voice, the unique sound, songwriting, emotiveness, and ease of transitions and range she shows in her tracks. The lyrics in this song get to me too every time I hear it, and I love singing it as well. The song was part of a musical/play, however, I think the lyrics can apply to you in a lot of different contexts, depending on how you interpret it.
