5 Songs I Love w/ Rumia

Following the release of her latest single 'If I Ever See You Again' we were keen to find out more about what inspires singer-songwriter 'Rumia's' sound. Check out her handpicked tracks and be sure to view 'If I Ever See You Again' at the end of this piece.

1. Lotus Flower by Radiohead

"Every time I need a push to remind myself why I want to dedicate myself to

music, I just listen to this song through headphones, at full volume and let

my body move with it. It's spectacular, the rhythms, Thom Yorke's voice,

the bass line... one of my favourites."

2. Nothing New by Taylor Swift feat. Phoebe Bridgers

"I am obsessed with this song. I love the message and I think that any

woman who works in the music industry can see herself reflected in the

lyrics. It’s just brilliant!"

3. Love More by Sharon Van Etten

"For me this song is everything that I am passionate about lyrics in music. I

love the crudeness of how she explains a dependent love relationship. At

first I found it a bit difficult to enjoy because of the drone and the dissonances but after several listens, those details have caught me even more."

4. Favourite Crime by Olivia Rodrigo

"This is in my 5 favourites because of the beautiful lyrics 'One heart broke,

four hands bloody', the melody and the voice of Olivia Rodrigo is another

level. At first it seems like a simple song, but the more you listen to it, the

complexity can be found, especially when trying to singing it."

5. Love is Pain by FINNEAS

"I am in love with FINNEAS's voice and his ability as a songwriter. I like how

in this song he goes through different love relationships, with his partner,

with his parents and ending with how love hurts since all people will end

up dying. Accompanied by a melody that reminds me of Leonard Cohen."
