5 Songs I Love w/ Lover Boy

Indie-pop artist Lover Boy has joined forces with rapper Lex Bratcher on his sophomore single, "Purple Thoughts". Serving as a melting pot of sonic influences, "Purple Thoughts" merges together aspects of jazz, soul, rap, and R&B, a pattern of genre-bending that we can see throughout all of Lover Boy's releases. Serving as his first collaborative project, Lex Bratcher adds a rich layer of smooth and sleek vocals, effortlessly blending together with the rhythmic rapping of Lover Boy.

With his latest single out, we caught up with Lover Boy to discover 5 of his all time favourite songs...

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - 40 Day Dream

Edward Shape was the first band I found on my own that pushed me to create and explore music. This song gave me a love for percussion and recording as much live as possible. Their music has been one of my biggest influences for so many years and I continue to learn from them.

The Temptations - Just My Imagination

My dad was the reason I fell in love with Motown. He showed me all of the music I was originally inspired by but never skipped a moment to tell me about one of the Motown greats who recorded so close to me in Detroit. He would take me as a kid to Hitsville U.S.A., the Motown studios, and has never stopped encouraging me and my music. The Temptations music pushed me to explore harmonies, simplicity and groove.

The Beatles - Strawberry Fields

Strawberry Fields has always been my favorite example and tool for stepping outside of what's normal and popular for your time and completely creating a world of music in its own dimension. I fell in love with sound and instrument manipulation and using the whole sonic field.

Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit I remember hearing this song for the first time and falling into a world of bliss. It introduced me to the world of psychedelic rock and out of the box thinking. This song inspired me to use reverbs and delays more prominently, allowing them to act as their own instrument.

Noah and The Whale - Blue Skies When I was younger I found this song when I was in a rough place mentally. This song to m has a connection to the point in your life where you decide that your happiness is up to you. It has helped me overcome some pretty low points and helps me appreciate all the high points.
