Following the release of The Valmonts glistening new Indie-Rock single 'Me & Myself Again', we caught up with the Dublin-based 4-piece to get some insight into what tracks have inspired them throughout the years and how they've influenced their sound. If you like their picks below, be sure to check out 'Me & Myself Again' at the end of the article.
1. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
"The bass line in this song is just iconic. We fell in love with it on college nights out where I t was always played at a silent disco we used to go to. Ian Curtis' vocal delivery is so haunting over the driving rhythm."
2. New Radicals - You Get What You Give
"From a very young age this song resonated with us, dancing around the living room singing 'You got the music in you'. It really is a soundtrack to our life and rediscovering the song years later is just as exciting! Gregg Alexander is a genius, the melodies are such earworms!"
3. INXS - I Need You Tonight
"If ever there was a band that oozed charisma it was INXS! Their sound matched their stage presence perfectly. What we love about this song is the emphasis on the space in between the guitar parts, it's what makes it and is a great lesson on groove."
4. Prince - When Doves Cry
"Myself (Darragh) and Keith are lucky enough to say we got to see Prince live at Malahide Castle in Dublin. I'll never forget being able to see him run from his blacked out bus onto the stage for the opening song from where we were seated. He was such an innovative guitar player and I loved learning his riffs, he merged the styles of pop and rock so effortlessly and When Doves Cry is a perfect example of that with its insane intro!"
5. The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
"When The Darkness first emerged on our TV screens with their Top of the Pops performance it blew our minds as kids watching it! All we wanted to do was be in a band after seeing that! They are masters of delivering an anthemic chorus with a killer vocal melody."
