Los Angeles-based artist and creative technologist August Kamp is back with “Sugarize”, an instantly addictive slice of indie electronica that feels both deeply human and deliciously futuristic. It’s the first taste of her upcoming body of work, and it’s one that reminds you just how good Kamp is at turning emotion into sound.
From the opening moments, “Sugarize” pulls you into its shimmering groove. The production is full of small surprises, flickers of texture, unexpected shifts, a rhythm that feels like it’s breathing. You can hear echoes of Mk.gee in the way it moves, but there’s something unmistakably August about it: that blend of warmth and weirdness, control and chaos, that makes her music so uniquely alive.
At its core, “Sugarize” is about endurance, about how we numb ourselves just enough to get through tough moments. “It’s about hanging in there,” August explains. “Seeking a better moment by making it through this one, often at the cost of some piece of Self.” You feel that tension in every beat — the track’s dreamy, free-flowing sound balanced by something quietly raw underneath.
True to form, August brings her fascination with technology and nature into the process itself. The track (and the rest of the upcoming record) was mastered through tape emulation on the OP-1 Field by Teenage Engineering, creating a sound that feels tactile and alive. It’s a fitting detail from an artist who sees machines not as cold tools but as collaborators, part of the same ecosystem she’s been building through her music.
With “Sugarize”, August Kamp once again proves she’s one of the most inventive voices in electronic music. It’s sleek, soulful, and full of little sonic worlds to get lost in, the kind of track that lingers long after it fades out.
