Dublin-based jazz quintet Oceanna have unveiled their long-awaited self-titled debut EP, Oceanna. Known for their genre-defying sound, the band blends jazz with psychedelia and atmospheric production, creating music that is at once experimental, contemporary, and emotionally attuned.

Formed in 2022, Oceanna draws on the diverse backgrounds of its members, hailing from Ireland and Brazil, to craft a rich musical tapestry. The five-track EP demonstrates the group’s versatility, with each song conveying distinct emotions while contributing to a cohesive auditory journey. Swelling guitar tones, tight yet understated drums, grounding basslines, twinkling keys, and soaring trumpet combine to produce a sound that is both ethereal and transportive.

Speaking about the project, the band said:"Recorded over two different weekends in Black Mountain Studios, this EP shows interesting aspects of how Oceanna speaks the language of music. Each of the 5 songs expresses very distinct feelings/emotions and takes you in a deep dive into them—but also allows the listener to explore the elements that tie the piece together as a whole."

Oceanna’s sound is influenced by modern Nu-Jazz artists such as Kokoroko, Alfa Mist, and Yussef Dayes, yet the band has developed a dynamic style uniquely their own. Guitarist Gabriel Bellator’s delicately crafted, effects-driven soundscapes complement the ensemble’s groove-heavy, melodic approach.

Since the release of their self-produced debut single Noir in 2022, Oceanna has earned recognition for their energetic live performances and organic stage presence. Highlights of their career include their first headline show on February 4, 2023, supporting Cuban-Irish artist Qbanaa, as well as performances at prominent Irish festivals and venues including All Together Now, Body & Soul, The Sugar Club, and The Complex. The band has also collaborated with Irish artists Qbanaa and JyellowL and opened for international acts such as Ruby Waters during her European tour.

To mark the release of Oceanna, the band will embark on an Irish tour, featuring a release party on October 12th at Bewley’s Café in Dublin.
