Dublin-based solo artist Walshy has revealed his self-titled sophomore album, accompanied by the release of the luminous new single, ‘worth it’, arriving March 13th. Already celebrated for his solo work and previous collaborative projects, Walshy has quickly cemented his presence as a distinctive voice in the Irish music scene.
Following his acclaimed 2023 debut album few beers, Walshy has built a reputation for his genre-blending artistry, fusing soulful jazz, boom-bap hip-hop, and dreamy indie into a cohesive, emotionally resonant sound. His latest single, ‘worth it’, leans into the atmospheric and intimate dreapop side of his songwriting, offering listeners a contemplative yet uplifting experience.
Opening with gently strummed guitars and a wash of strings, ‘worth it’ introduces Walshy’s confessional lead vocal, evoking comparisons to Beach House and Bon Iver. Subtle synth lines dance alongside boxy drums, leading into a soaring, shoegaze-inflected guitar line. The track crescendos into a layered, ethereal finale where strings and intricate guitar patterns softly guide the song to its close.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Walshy shares:"I wrote ‘worth it’ after a breakup, just feeling grateful for the friends and family I had around me. It’s about that weird contradiction, how we can be hardest on the people who love us most because they’re the ones we feel safest to be vulnerable with. Sonically, it’s slow, warm, and nostalgic like stepping out into the fresh air and finally taking a deep breath. The song gradually opens up, and by the time it hits the outro, it feels like everything you’ve been holding onto finally lets go."
With a self-titled sophomore release on the horizon, Walshy continues to expand his unique sound, blending vulnerability, lush atmospheres, and thoughtful songwriting into music that feels both personal and universal.
