LA-based artist Gabriella Raelyn explores dark feminine desire with sultry new self-made track, ‘Crush at first sight…’ Raelyn has been on the rise recently. With just under 85k followers on TikTok, her creative feats span beyond just her music. Singularly taking the reins on all production, visuals and composition elements, Raelyn propels forth with authentic woman artistry at a whole new level.
Predominantly, her songs have an overarching theme of romanticism, and often feature storylines that explore the agony and passion of star-crossed lovers & forbidden love through the lens of dark femininity. The Colorado born, LA-based artist describes her sound and artistry with the self-coined terms, 'Neon Renaissance' and 'Ret-Romantic, inspired by the aesthetics of 80s dark fantasy.
‘Crush at first sight…’ is a dark feminine exploration of desire. Raelyn’s distinctive vocals beckon you into her sonic world, laid atop dynamic production and driving rhythms. On what inspired the track, Raelyn shares, “I was on a mother-daughter date when I was inspired by a cute guy at a restaurant. He seemed a bit brooding and it drew me to him. When I went home, I first heard the bass line of the song, then the chorus lyrics followed shortly. I opened up my laptop and got to work right away.”
Alongside the track, Raelyn will release a self-directed new music video as well as slow & fast versions of the track. In the video, Raelyn enters an old Victorian-esque house, as a masked figure appears, wistfully by her every step. Visual storytelling is just another part of her craft, and her music is the center point of her creative realm. Through the lens of dark femininity, she creates story worlds of sonic escape, filled with star-crossed lovers and forbidden love.
On ‘Crush at first sight…’, Gabriella says, “Overall, the track is really about the feelings of having a crush upon seeing someone for the first time based on one's own preconceived notions and not necessarily based on reality. It's an exploration into how carried away one can get when seeing someone through their ideals rather than who they really are.”
