Interview - Nuke Pasta

Hailing from the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nuke Pasta is the moniker of Adrian Tanner. He is an incredible artist who puts a lot of effort into fusing many genres into his sound, pushing limits and reinventing pop music itself. "The New Mutiny," his most recent hit, is evidence of his ingenuity and boundless originality.

We sat down with Nuke Pasta to discuss his music and much more. Here is what he had to say:

Hey Nuke Pasta, welcome to FLEX! How are you?

Hello there! Thank you so much for having me. I’m doing well, and I’m excited to talk about my new music.

Congratulations on your brand-new single 'The New Mutiny' - what inspired this particular song?

I appreciate that a lot! I’m extremely proud of this one. The inspiration mainly came from my frustration at some recent world events. So many similar and tragic moments in history seem to repeat over and over again; it almost seems like we are doomed to continue this cycle forever. Therefore, themes of anger and frustration are conveyed throughout the song lyrically, musically and visually as well. This is a song about biting the hand that feeds you.

And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?

I don’t think that I need to be in a certain mood to write, per se, just in a creative headspace. I love to let the emotions of a certain moment in my life take over and just bleed out all over the music I’m currently writing. From there I can pull back if it’s too dramatic, or hunker down if it needs more grit. I made it a point fairly early on in my career to become familiar with as many genres as I could, for this very reason. That way I can utilize whatever sound is needed to best embellish my music with.

How was the recording and writing process?

For me, the writing and recording process is one of major trial and error. I am fortunate enough to have built a pretty stellar home studio setup, and that allows me to experiment endlessly. No one can tell me “no!” While I’m sure this sounds like a dream scenario, I promise that it’s a double-edged sword. I end up spending vast amounts of time tweaking things for no real reason and then my releases end up getting delayed. Time management was never my strong suit!

For viewers who don't know Nuke Pasta, how would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as “eclectic yet catchy” because I draw from such a wide variety of genres and styles, but I also do my damndest to make sure that the hooks and lyrics are as catchy as they can be. You can blame that on all the jingle work I’ve done lately.. but I think it allows me to craft a unique sound. I also am a prodigious student of the artform that is composition, so you won’t find any lazy songwriting from me! I try to serve the song over all else.

And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?

Outside of making music, I like to spend quality time with people that I care about. I love travelling and venturing out to see awe-inspiring things. I dabble in cooking and video games though I am not particularly gifted at either one. I also find myself listening to more podcasts than music these days for some reason, but when I do listen to music, I tend to gravitate towards good ole progressive rock and a lot of jazz/RnB.
