Interview - OlyasDream

OlyasDream is a multidimensional performance artist. She appeared on American Idol 2021 playing the HandPan. Usually people use this drum for meditations, but she produced the alternative rock genre with it. She considers herself the founder of a new mass pop stream in music: spiritual development. Her latest offering, ‘Wildest Dreams’ is OlyasDream’s has a shamanic, dreamy feel to it. The alternative rock track features hand pan, drums, guitar, and electronic software on the production alongside her captivating vocals. We sat down with OlyasDream to discuss her music and much more. Here is what she had to say: Hey OlyasDream, welcome to FLEX! How are you? Hey, I’m great, happy to be here! Congratulations on your brand-new single ‘Wildest Dream’ - what inspired this particular song? Thank you. One day we had a fight with a friend and realized that the phrase “I know what you are” is rather annoying and can not be accurate. So I got inspired by the differences we have with all the people and found it very beautiful and charming, even if they are not so. I love being surprised by personality traits and viewpoints. Also how differently each person experiences taste, colors, etc. But speaking for myself, I just started digging deeper into the idea of what I am and realized that even I’m not quite sure. And it’s okay.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this track? Yes, the fight with a friend and realization how sensitive we are to the words and ideas of each other. And do you have to be in a certain mood to write? Sometimes it had to be a very deep emotion involved. But also, I can just start writing, and the connection with the creative fields happens as I go. Any plans to release any sort of video for the track? Yes, we are filming an editorial lyrics video this week and plan to release it in the middle of November. How was the recording and writing process? I always write and record demos at home first, together with some beats to showcase the mood and flow of the song better. Then go to the studio where we work on it together with the producer and engineer. They always have great ideas for the track sound and placements. I love co-create with other people, I think it’s like giving birth to a song into the outside world. For viewers that don’t know OlyasDream, how would you describe your sound? I am a multidimensional performance artist. The sound takes you out of your head into the open space filled with raw emotions and dreamy stories. What’s the music scene like where you live? I live in Los Angeles, a very inspiring and amazing place for a musician to be. And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio? I love traveling. I went to Iceland in August for my birthday, rented a car and went places that aren’t on the map, had to use the paper map locals gave me. I love to explore the unique vibe of the places on the Earth. When space travel starts, I’ll be the first in line for the tickets.
