Jennifer Silva makes the horror impossible to ignore on new single 'Surrounded by Monsters'

Jennifer Silva's new single 'Surrounded by Monsters' turns vampires, wolves, snakes and unseen creatures into metaphors for corruption, greed, exploitation and abuse of power, creating a dark alt-rock track that feels deliberately theatrical without losing its sense of urgency.
But she's not interested in gothic aesthetics for its own sake. The darkness is functional, becoming a way of talking about institutions and individuals who survive by feeding on fear, trust, labour and vulnerability, while the electronic textures and driving rock foundation push that idea into something brilliantly physical.
The melody is direct, the rhythm is infectious and the chorus is built to land quickly, giving 'Surrounded by Monsters' the accessibility of a dark anthem instead of the density of a protest piece. There's real power in the delivery, but also enough control to keep the track from becoming one-note.
For all its references to corruption, environmental destruction, war and exploitation, 'Surrounded by Monsters' is ultimately a track about resistance rather than despair. Its message is not that the monsters have won, but that recognising them clearly is the first step towards refusing their power.
Co-written, produced and mixed by Errick Lewis, the track also feels like a strong opening move for her forthcoming fifth studio album, bringing together dark rock, electronic atmosphere and pop immediacy in a way that feels focused and purposeful at every turn.
