Toronto-based singer-songwriter Katie Dauson has released her seventh studio album, Dauson City Gold Rush, an eight-track collection that blends rock, folk, blues, and country influences. Produced and engineered by James Nickle, the album features all original songs written and performed by Dauson, who also played rhythm guitar on every track. The album’s sound ranges from heartfelt folk-rock storytelling to buoyant, nostalgia-tinged rock anthems.
The title track, Gold Rush, is an instrumental inspired by a spontaneous jam session in Dauson’s music room. “My dad heard me playing and insisted I record it,” Dauson said, describing how the track became the centrepiece of the album. Other notable tracks include Scene Stealing Casanova, which humorously explores writer’s block, and Searching for Love, a shimmering 1980s-style rock ballad born from a subway ride.
Dauson, known for her genre-defying style and energetic performances, described the album as an evolving work of art. “This album changed so much from where it started,” she said. “It began as one thing and evolved completely by the end — but that’s what makes it special. Every track has its own little story.” Dauson City Gold Rush is now available across streaming platforms and digital retailers.
