Genre-bending singer/songwriter Kendra Morris has released 'Something In Common', the most intimate and emotionally raw track from her forthcoming board game-inspired concept album 'Next', arriving September 19th via Karma Chief Records.

Written alone with just a guitar and a looping Wurlitzer sample, 'Something In Common' began as a quiet moment of introspection and vulnerability. “It didn’t need anything else,” says Morris, and the finished recording holds true to that spirit. Gentle Wurlitzer stabs (courtesy of Monti Miramonti) and nylon-string guitar (Premo) meet a minimal, heartbeat-like drum loop as Morris’ haunting vocals glide above. Her bandmates softly echo her harmonies in the background, adding warmth and weight without breaking the song’s spell.

'Next' is Morris’s fourth album of original material and perhaps her most fully realised yet, a kaleidoscopic blend of lo-fi soul, psych-pop, and vintage NYC influences, wrapped in a concept that places its characters in a stylised board game world. It’s Blondie meets boom-bap, doo-wop meets downtown grit, all filtered through Morris’s distinct visual and sonic aesthetic.
